The Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Centre

Conception Bay South (CBS) in Newfoundland is home to a small jewel called the Manuels River Hibernia Interpretation Center. Located in an ancient and scenic river valley 20 minutes from downtown St. John’s (the capital city), the Centre provides a window into the province’s rich natural history, heritage and community. Newfoundland once provided a lush habitat to prehistoric life long before it welcomed explorers and settlers.

The centre is a treasure trove of information on Newfoundland’s geology, paleontology, biology and human history. Our exhibits feature fun interactive activities for the whole family, including our stream table and scavenger hunts. Along with all the learning and those beautiful fossils, why not relax at the Riverside Café, or take advantage of the centre’s various fun programs and exciting events?

Feel like getting some fresh air after all that? Connect with nature on the fully accessible hiking trails that run over six kilometres along Manuels River. Our guides would love to tailor a hike to your pace and interests. Join interpreters for a dig at our world-renowned fossil site, and if you’re not too tired, walk down to the rocky beach to enjoy the views of the coastline.
