Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

The roar of the Noon Gun resonates in the bustling city of Halifax. At the fort’s front entrance a 78th Highlander stands sentry. Inside it’s 1869, the kilted 78th Highlanders perform their drillsto the snap of the drum as the soldier’s wives invite visitors on guided tours of the fort.

Interesting historic period rooms intermingle with modern andexciting exhibits including the Fortress Halifax – A City Shaped by Conflict. This must-see exhibit chronicles the history of Kjipuktuk, through its establishment as Halifax in 1749, to the mosaic of a city that it is today. The Parade Square leads to new discoveries – one transports you back to Second World War (WWII) and Juno Beach, France in the “Storm the Beach” D-Day Exhibit.

The Army Museum, on the 2nd floor of the Cavalier building, showcases the compelling accounts of Canadian soldiers as they served through world conflicts.Climb the stone steps to the ramparts to enjoy the astounding views of the city and harbour.
